Mentor council miffed at state tax change and assistance funding

MENTOR – Mentor City Council and city administrators are not happy with either a change in state business income tax or the small amount of state grants the city has received in the last few years.
In both cases, the city and its taxpayers are the losers, according to comments made by council members and City Manager Ken Filipiak during a March 20 city council meeting.

Developer threatens restraining order to stop Mentor Diamond Centre Drive upgrade

MENTOR – The legal battle between Shamrock Business Center and the City of Mentor is continuing with a threat by the developer to stop the widening of Diamond Centre Drive by seeking a restraining order.
As a result, a letter written by Law Director Richard Hennig to Shamrock attorney Sheldon Berns and approved by Mentor City Council March 20 states the city will not proceed with plans for a third lane on the street, only a right turn lane extension onto Heisley Road.

United Way of Lake County's 15th annual celebrity server fundraiser Sham-rocked

EASTLAKE – United Way of Lake County (UWLC) Sham-rocked the American-Croatian Lodge with the 15th annual celebrity server luncheon fundraiser March 15. Certainly one of Lake County’s signature events of the year and United Way’s biggest fundraiser, the celebrity server featured more than 520 volunteers and guests, many sporting true Irish splendor, great attempts at karaoke by sometimes reluctant vocalists, raffle prizes and the lodge’s buffet of corned beef, cabbage, carrots, potatoes and salad served by volunteer celebrities.

LAKE COUNTY - The Board of Commissioners passed a resolution approving the expenditure of $27,332 as recommended by the Lake County Ohio Port and Economic Development Authority at the March 13 meeting.
