Madison had the creepiest pumpkin patch in the 1930s

MADISON – In the 1930s, a farmer on Dock Road had the creepiest pumpkin patch in the county. At night, when the moonlight shone over John Cz’s farm, it illuminated what looked like dozens of grimacing heads strewn on the ground. What appeared to be a grisly crime scene was actually the result of Cz’s ingenious and fanciful mind.
John Cz II lived from 1908 to 1984. His tombstone in North Madison Cemetery reads, “A creative, imaginative and loving father.”

County to implement online permitting system

LAKE COUNTY – There was good news for contractors, developers and businesses at the Lake County Board of Commissioners Oct. 10 meeting.
Joel DiMare, director of administrative services, stated they had been seeking, and found, software for a countywide, online permitting system.

LAKE COUNTY – The Board of Commissioners gave special recognition at their Oct. 10 meeting to someone who made a contribution to the community in a special way.
Ray Paganini, Josh Rosen and Doug Modic, all of Cornerstone IT in Mentor, came before the Board.

Painesville voters asked to approve police levy

PAINESVILLE – Council has placed a five-year, 2.5-mill levy on the Nov. 5 ballot for the Painesville Police Department. The levy would raise $608,820 per year and cost $87.50 per $100,000 property valuation.

“October is Respect Life Month,” said Lake County Right to Life Executive Director Jacqui Fetsko, who participated in a Life Chain event in Mentor Oct. 6.
