Pymatuning Deer Park goes on another year of family fun in Jamestown
JAMESTOWN– If you are looking for a fun way to spend an afternoon without having to drive far you may want to consider Pymatuning Deer Park this summer at its location of 804 East Jamestown Road in Jamestown, Pa.(From July 6 edition).
According to Owner Rachelle Sankey, her park contains around 250-300 animals to peruse throughout this year within the 65 year old premises that she said was once established by her grandparents Richard and Irene Reigleman.
“We have lots of babies, in fact remarkably so this year,” said Sankey. “We have a baby zebra that was born on Monday, June 25, have three mini horses that had colts this spring with the newest that was born on Sunday, June 17, as well as have a new pigmy goat, three male kangaroos in the petting zoo exhibit that came from Michigan, three female wolf pups that were born in February near the prairie dog exhibit, as well as two calves that were born in the valley area.”
Additionally Sankey said that they now have North American Porcupines in addition to their African porcupines so that guests can distinguish the difference, are now offering guinea singing dogs that look a lot like a domestic version of Australian wild dogs and recently converted their central pen into a large ring-tailed lemur exhibit.
Aside from those new features Sankey said they still have a lot of other animals as well including a large amount of deer, a few tigers, peafowl, marmosets, baboons, a bobcat, a black bear, a cougar/puma/panther, camels, a lion, muntjacs, a leopard, antelope, an ostrich, prairie dogs, tortoises, spider monkeys, squirrel monkeys, black and white ruffed lemurs, as well as pony rides, train rides and bird feeding options at an additional fee.
They also offer a playground, an old town walk through area, concessions and a gift shop.
“As long as the weather cooperates it’ll be a good year,” said Sankey. “Mostly I’m super excited about the many babies so I think that’s unique to us right now.”
