CHS Commencement 4 p.m. May 18

by Martha Sorohan

Conneaut High School 2019 commencement will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, May 18, at Garcia Gymnasium.

The break with the traditional 7 p.m. start time was made in order to give families the opportunity to go out to dinner, or celebrate with families, after commencement, said Conneaut Area City Schools Superintendent Lori Riley.
“When commencement was over at 8 or 8:30, it was too late to do that,” she said.
Riley made the announcement at the joint meeting Jan. 7 between Conneaut City Council and the Conneaut Area City Schools Board of Education.
Riley implied that more changes to commencement exercises could be coming in the near future, but that the time change would be the only one this year.
The school administration is aware of the many community activities that take place the third Saturday in May, including the Conneaut Fish & Game Club Trout Derby, Blessing of the Vines at Markko Vineyard, the Spring for Sidewalks 5K and Kingsville Library Lawn Sale, and Echo Taps at Greenlawn Cemetery.
The Class of 2019 Baccalaureate is tentatively scheduled for Friday, May 19, at St. Mary Church.
