Ashtabula County Airport receives federal grant for runway extension project

DENMARK TOWNSHIP – Northeast Ohio Regional Airport received a $125,586 grant in late July from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration for runway upgrades, part of a $7.4 million runway extension project at the airport that wrapped up in early July.

Bove pleads not guilty in Kara Zdancziewski slaying

JEFFERSON – John Bove pled not guilty during his arraignment the morning of Tuesday, Aug. 8, to all charges in a 10-count indictment arising from his alleged kidnapping and murder of Kara Zdanczewski, a 13-year-old Ashtabula girl.

County commissioners vote to place DD board replacement levy on the November ballot

WAYNE TOWNSHIP – During an evening meeting on Tuesday, July 25, at the Wayne Township offices, the Ashtabula County Board of Commissioners unanimously voted to submit a two-mill, continuous replacement levy to the Ashtabula County Auditor for certification in order to fund the Ashtabula County Board of Developmental Disabilities (DD Board).

City of Ashtabula recognized for outstanding achievement in community development, citing its role in Bridge Street revitalization

ASHTABULA – The City of Ashtabula’s Office of Planning and Community Development was recognized as the Community Development Department of the Year for its work in helping revitalize Bridge Street and historic Ashtabula Harbor during a Wednesday, July 26th, conference of the Ohio Conference of Community Development (OCCD) at the Hilton Garden Inn in Cleveland.

Safety gear donated to county jail, city and village law enforcement personnel

JEFFERSON – Representatives from local law-enforcement agencies and the Ashtabula County Jail received a donation of safety gloves and masks care of Jefferson attorney Michelle French and Ashtabula County Commissioner Kathryn Whittington during a brief meeting the evening of Thursday, July 27.
