April 24, 2018 — Today, a bipartisan bill authored by U.S. Senators Sherrod Brown (D-OH) and Rob Portman (R-OH) that would reauthorize the Children’s Hospitals Graduate Medical Education (CHGME) program for an additional five years and increase its authorization to $330 million per year passed out of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee.

Brown’s Bipartisan Bill To Establish Voluntary Cancer Registry For Firefighters Clears Senate Health Committee

WASHINGTON, D.C. April 24, 2018 — Today, U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown’s bipartisan bill to establish a voluntary cancer registry of firefighters, passed out of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee. Brown’s bill, the Firefighter Cancer Registry Act, would require the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to create and maintain a voluntary registry to collect data on cancer incidence among firefighters.

Tax breaks need stronger evaluation

Policy Matters Ohio said in testimony today before the Tax Expenditure Review Committee that a more in-depth analysis is needed of the tax breaks that cost the state more than $9 billion a year in revenue. The committee held its first hearing on five sales-tax breaks.
