Warriors run away with win over Dragons

ASHTABULA - The Edgewood Warriors hosted the Lakeside Dragons in a recent boys’ basketball game. The two teams played a close opening quarter, however the Warriors pulled away starting in the second quarter.


Edgewood outscored Lakeside 16-14 in the first quarter. The Warriors went on to outscore the Dragons by ten points 18-8 in the second quarter to build a 34-22 lead going into halftime.
Edgewood held Lakeside to single digits again in the third quarter as they outscored them 22-9. Edgewood went up 56-31 heading into the final quarter.
The two teams would play another tight fourth quarter as both offenses started to get going. The Warriors were still able to come out on top 20-18 in the quarter for the 74-51 win.
Hayden Kanicki led the Warriors with 20 points. Four other Edgewood players would score in double digits. Sam Jerman added 13 points to go with five assists. Aaron Anderson added 12 points to go with nine rebounds. Ricky Baldwin and Jake Zappitelli also scored in double digits with 11 points apiece. Evan Rapose added five points for the Warriors in the win, while Trenton Johnston chipped in two points.
Ethan Colbert led the Dragons with 16 points in the loss. Ke’Von Colbert was the next highest Lakeside scorer with eight points. Rounding out the scoring for Lakeside were: Marquis West six points, Brandon Ford six points, Courtez Vaughn five points, Elijah Haynes three points, Sean McKee three points, Mykael Crews two points and Johnny Anservitz two points.
With the win the Warriors improved to 3-0 on the season. The Dragons fell to 2-2 on the season.
Lakeside won the junior varsity game 59-49. Savion Colbert led the Dragons with 12 points. Jake Holden scored 20 points in the loss for the Warriors.
