2nd Annual Reeds & Roots Skillshare Teaches Skills for Earth-Friendly Living
April 2 - Reeds & Roots Skillshare, an outdoor family-friendly educational event, invites everyone in the northeast Ohio region and beyond to learn sustainable living skills at historic Camp Roosevelt Firebird on Leesville Lake August 15-18, 2019.
Tickets are on sale now, as of April 1! For an affordable price, attendees have access to 3 nights of camping, homemade meals, evening entertainment, and over 50 workshops and activities teaching topics such as Acorn Processing for Food & Medicine, Building a No Mortgage Mud Cottage, Honey as Medicine, Friction Fire, Cooking with Wild Mushrooms, Primitive Water Filters, Building Your Own Herbal Apothecary, Fermentation, Basket Weaving, kids workshops, and many more skills on homesteading, sustainable agriculture, wilderness survival, and nature connections! Around 250 people attended last year’s inaugural Reeds & Roots Skillshare and we look forward to more exciting community-building this year.
Music will fill the gathering in the evenings: folk, bluegrass, acoustic, and more! Organizers plan jam sessions, open mics, and contra dancing. In addition to awesome skills and activities, attendees also get locally-sourced healthy homemade meals with fresh ingredients from neighboring farms and beyond. Some mealtimes will also feature networking opportunities and interest group meet-ups. A co-parenting space will be provided for parents with small children, plus kids’ workshops and activities.
Camp Roosevelt Firebird is the perfect venue for this nature-loving, educational event. With 104 acres of forest, fire circles, hiking trails, creeks for wading, farm animals, and Leesville Lake for swimming, canoeing, kayaking, and paddle boarding. Attendees can rent a private cabin or pitch a tent. Facilities include indoor showers and flush toilets, a dining hall, lodge, and historic 1890s barn, and lots of natural wonders!
Reeds & Roots Skillshare is an all-volunteer-run labor of love. The goal of Reeds & Roots is to promote sustainable living in the broader Northeast Ohio region and beyond by teaching earth-friendly living skills with one another in a joyful, healthy, family-friendly atmosphere. To keep the gathering accessible and ticket prices as low as possible, the event is organized on a tight budget. All teachers, organizers, and workers are volunteers, and ticket prices are among the lowest of all earthskills gatherings.
Organizers are accepting Work Trade applicants, who receive the lowest-priced admission in exchange for some labor during the fest. Teachers are still being booked, as well -- do YOU have a skill to teach? Please share it! Organizers are also still seeking sponsors -- please support us as we grow!
Tickets, applications, and event information can be found at www.reedsandroots.org. Early bird tickets will be available through June 1, so don’t delay!
Gates open at 7pm August 15, then at 8am August 16th-18th. Both full event tickets and day tickets are available.
