Brown, Portman Reintroduce Bipartisan Legislation To Combat Addiction-Driven Human Trafficking

WASHINGTON, D.C., July 24 – U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) hosted a news conference call today as he reintroduced his bipartisan legislation to crack down on addiction-driven human trafficking. Brown’s bill, the Protecting Rights of Those Exploited by Coercive Trafficking (PROTECT) Act would specifically address the use of drugs to facilitate human trafficking and protect vulnerable victims of trafficking.

Ohio lost 43% of newspaper journalists since 2012

July 30 - In six short years, Ohio’s newspaper journalists declined by 43%, according to Policy Matters Ohio. In 2012, Ohio had 2,870 newsroom staffers to monitor city council meetings, photograph high school games and design the front page. In 2018, there were 1,640 newspaper reporters, editors, photographers and designers. Since 2004, all Ohio’s newspaper industry jobs – which include office clerks, truck drivers and people who work in circulation – fell by 58%.

Bipartisan Ohio Delegation Leads Bicameral Effort to Preserve the Great Lakes

WASHINGTON, July 26 – This week, a bipartisan, bicameral group of lawmakers introduced the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative (GLRI) Act of 2019, legislation that would reauthorize the GLRI for another five years and increase authorized funding for the program from $300 million annually to $475 million annually by fiscal year 2026.
