Brown, Burr, Stabenow, Ernst Introduce Bipartisan Legislation To Renew Healthy Start Program, Reduce Infant Mortality Rate

WASHINGTON, D.C., Oct. 23 – U.S. Senators Sherrod Brown (D-OH), Richard Burr (R-NC), Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) and Joni Ernst (R-IA) introduced bipartisan legislation to reauthorize the Healthy Start program. Healthy Start aims to reduce the national infant mortality rate by identifying and supporting communities with infant mortality rates that are at least one and a half times the U.S. national average or increasing above the national average.

Brown, Warren Introduce Bicameral Legislation To Protect Students From Predatory For-Profit Colleges

WASHINGTON, D.C., Oct. 23 – U.S. Sens. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) and Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) introduced legislation to protect students from the predatory practices of for-profit colleges by ending taxpayer subsidies to these schools. The Students Not Profits Act would also remove for-profit colleges as part of the definition that makes them eligible to receive Title IV Federal student aid funds, including Pell Grants, Perkins loans, and TEACH Grants. Representative Pramila Jayapal (D-WA-07) has introduced the House version of the bill.

Brown Announces More Than $570,000 For Ohio Ecological Food And Farm Association

WASHINGTON, D.C., Oct. 24 – Today, U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) announced that the United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) has awarded a $570,327 grant to the Ohio Ecological Food and Farm Association through the Agriculture and Food Research Initiative (AFRI) for hands-on training, farm viability, and land access support for new Ohio farmers.
