Red Raider miscues lead to opening night loss

PAINESVILLE-It wasn’t supposed to be like this. Coming on the heels of 2-8 and 1-9 records over the past two seasons, coach Dan Cvelbar was seeing some good things as his team warmed up for their season opener at Jack Britt Stadium by hosting a resurgent Berkshire Badger team coming off consecutive 1-9 records of their own. “We’re a young team,” Cvelbar said before the game. “We do have some good football players, though, so we’ll see how it plays out.”

The Jefferson Falcons picked up their first win in nearly two years with a comeback win over the Grand Valley Mustangs on Friday, August 30. The Falcons started were 0-10 a year ago and were down 14-0 against Grand Valley in this year’s opener.

World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series is this weekend

CONCORD, NC – The race for the 2019 World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series championship gets down to the nitty-gritty this weekend with the final weekend of racing in the Midwest at I-96 Speedway on Thursday and Sharon Speedway on Friday and Saturday. Only 11 races remain on the schedule, and if any team is going to catch 16-time tour victor Brandon Sheppard by the Can-Am World Finals in just over two months, this weekend will be the time to kick it in gear.

Dragon heat melts Spartans

CONNEAUT-As the Conneaut Spartans of coach Justin Sanford hosted the Lakeside Dragons in their season opening volleyball match at Garcia Gymnasium Tuesday night, both young teams knew they had skills that were good, but Lakeside this season is taking a new approach to things under the guidance of new coach Stephani Kubec, in her first season leading the Dragons.

Warriors top Heralds in volleyball match

The Edgewood Warriors volleyball team picked up their first win of the season with a three set win over the host St. John Heralds on Thursday, August 22. The Warriors improved to 1-3 on the season as they defeated St. John 25-16, 25-17, 25-21.  With the loss the Heralds fell to 0-2 on the young season.

Mentor captures War on the Shore title

The Mentor Cardinals boys cross country team won the recent War on the Shore cross country meet on Monday, August 29th. Mentor finished with a team score of 55 to beat out second place Poland with a team score of 58.

Scooters wins championship game

GREENVILLE – Andover Scooters baseball team sponsored by Scooters By the Lake in Andover, Ohio was able to bounce back from back-to-back losses to the Jamestown Redbirds to win the best of five series in the Pymatuning Area Wooden Bat League Championship game.
